Human capital and the intertemporal substitution for leisure: empirical evidence for Spain

چکیده
Abstract In this paper we provide the first estimate of intertemporal substitution for leisure in Spain, accounting impact human capital accumulation. This would allow uncovering whether labour supply Spanish workers is affected by capital. Our empirical strategy consists estimating equation with and without capital, what allows to detect hypothetical estimation biases associated omitting To that end, build a pseudo-panel data set combining Family Expenditure Survey Labour over period 1987–1997. While model ignores accumulation provides an elasticity about 0.25, comparable previously available estimates Spain other economies, 0.5, confirms existence bias former estimates. Finally, larger younger cohorts than older ones.

Intertemporal Elasticity of Substitution with Leisure Margin
This paper investigates whether leisure time definitions matter in the estimation of the intertemporal elasticity of substitution of consumption (IES) by using a utility specification that allows interaction between consumption and leisure time. We find that the IES estimated using a narrowly defined leisure measure that excludes quasi-leisure activities is larger than that estimated using nonm...

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

We solve and estimate a dynamic model that allows agents to optimally choose their labor hours and consumption and that allows for both human capital accumulation and savings. Estimation results and simulation exercises indicate that the intertemporal elasticity of substitution is much higher than the conventional estimates and the downward bias comes from the omission of the human capital accu...
متن کاملEmpirical Evidence on Human Capital Spillovers
This paper examines whether the average level of human capital in a region affects the earnings of an individual residing in that region in a manner that is external to the individual’s own human capital. I find little evidence of an external effect of human capital, which suggests that human capital spillovers of the form postulated by the new growth literature are unlikely to matter much in p...
